Master of Ceremonies Max Powers
Hailing from Oakland, CA., Max was awarded the Ministry of Education scholarship to Japan after years of independent study.
He majored in International Relations at Sophia University’s Department of Comparative Culture, becoming a freelance translator, which led to work on commercials and TV program narration.
For over 15 years, he has contributed to many of NHK Educational’s English teaching programs as well as NHK World programs exploring Japanese culture broadcast in 160 countries worldwide, as well as countless TV shows, commercials, movies, and as an MC for major international events, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
His voice has most likely been heard in some form by every person in Japan over the last 17 years.
